Is your home photogenic? If you’re looking to sell, it should be.

An increasing amount of people are researching homes online prior to attending an open house.

Online real estate giants like Zillow and Trulia now allow potential buyers to research home estimates, neighborhoods stats, and other public records, all from the comfort of the couch.

And while potential buyers love it, it’s making getting potential buyers into the home that much harder.

As someone who’s looking to sell your home, a picture will say a thousand words. Make it say one thousand positive words. A well cared for home on the outside eludes to a well-cared for home on the inside.

Crank up the Curb Appeal

One of the most effective ways to peak a buyer’s curiosity is to make it as beautiful on the outside as it is on the inside. Here are a few simple ways to entice potential buyers into your home:

  • Manicured lawn and landscape. Mow the grass, pick up sticks, and clean up the outside of your home. Your efforts will not go unnoticed.
  • Planters. Add a planter or two as an affordable, simple, and effective way to add color to your outdoor living spaces.
  • Symmetry. Symmetry is attractive to the human eye. Keep this in mind as you put planters in place.
  • Welcoming front door. A front door is the focal point of your home. At a minimum, clean off the dirt, wipe down the door knob, polish the fixtures. Consider painting it a bold and welcoming color, or repainting as is for a cared-for finish.
